Ascended Heroes: Mega Attack Rares, Trainer’s Pokémon, and Artwork Collecting

A collector-focused tour of Ascended Heroes, including the official Mega attack rare treatment, featured illustration cards, and N’s Zekrom ETB promos.

A Release with Several Collecting Themes

Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes combines Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, Trainer’s Pokémon, and artwork-led cards. The official expansion page highlights Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex, alongside Pokémon connected to Erika, Larry, and Team Rocket.

This guide helps collectors revisit the release in the context of the current Mega Evolution era. It does not present Ascended Heroes as the newest October expansion.

What Is a Mega Attack Rare?

Pokémon describes Mega attack rares as a new rarity featuring Mega Evolution Pokémon ex with colourful unique illustrations and Japanese attack names integrated into the art. The treatment recalls the spirit of Mega Pokémon-EX artwork from the XY era.

The official examples include Mega Scrafty ex, Mega Hawlucha ex, Mega Eelektross ex, and Mega Gengar ex. The Japanese lettering is part of the artwork style; it does not by itself mean the card is a Japanese-language printing. Check the actual card language and identifier before buying.

Illustration Rares Offer Another Route

The official page highlights artwork for Budew, Psyduck, Mega Froslass ex, and Fezandipiti ex within its illustration rare and special illustration rare section. Use the card gallery to verify each exact card rather than treating all four as the same rarity.

A small artwork collection can be more manageable than pursuing every premium variant. Choose a subject, illustrator, or visual theme that you enjoy. A wishlist does not have to follow a market-value leaderboard.

Trainer’s Pokémon Need Precise Names

Examples include Erika’s Vileplume ex, Larry’s Staraptor, Team Rocket’s Kangaskhan ex, and Team Rocket’s Mimikyu. The owner’s name is part of the card’s identity. A generic search for the Pokémon alone can return different expansions or unrelated versions.

Record the full printed name, number, finish, and language. This is especially helpful if combining Trainer’s Pokémon from several releases in one binder.

N’s Zekrom and ETB Versions

The standard ETB contains nine boosters and one N’s Zekrom full-art foil promo. The Pokémon Center ETB contains eleven boosters and two copies of the promo, including one with the Pokémon Center logo.

These guaranteed inclusions are a separate category from booster pulls. Compare stamped and unstamped cards independently, and inspect actual condition rather than assuming a sealed box guarantees a perfect promo.
